Washington DC – A stately building deserving of our nation’s capital, having a stunning view down Pennsylvania Avenue towards the Capitol Building itself.
Downtown Chicago – A remarkably grand entrance, located just one block from Chicago’s famed Magnificent Mile shopping district.
Vegas – Modern angles and floor-to-ceiling glass give this unique location a spectacular look at the famous Vegas Strip.
NYC Chrysler – The Trylon Towers, created by the late, renowned contemporary architect Philip Johnson, are a dramatic addition to the Chrysler Building, and home to The Capital Grille. The gleaming, seven-story glass and steel pyramid is unlike anything in Manhattan, and just about the most unique dining settings anywhere.
Scottsdale – The building’s design was inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright, and guests dining on the outdoor patio enjoy a look at a magnificent spire (created by Wright himself), dedicated to the famous architect.
NYC Wall Street – Inside the historic Equitable Building, that which was when a mighty bank vault has become the highly coveted Calloway Room – an excellent setting for a private meeting or celebration.
The first Capital Grille was founded by Ned Grace, in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1990. The opening was curious for several reasons: the upscale steakhouse contrasted with the then-rundown downtown area of Providence, and also the opening occurred amidst a continuing recession. Grace envisioned the restaurant being popular with business and political elite, and proved to be accurate. Seven years after opening, the first location pulled in over $4 million in annual sales.
Underneath the leadership of Grace’s Bugaboo Creek Steak House Inc. (the name of Grace’s other chain), the chain expanded to a few major markets. By 1996, The Capital Grille had locations in Washington, D.C. and Boston. In 1997, aided by way of a $20 million credit dhocys from two banks, it expanded with four more locations. Bugaboo Creek Steak House Inc. went public in 1994, and later on changed its name to RARE Hospitality International, Inc. Based on the Washington Business Journal, the chain was acquired by Darden Restaurants as being a “part of a $1.19 billion acquisition of RARE Hospitality in 2007.
